Hotel Filigrane
A Parisian hotel where the elegance of Johanna Gullichsen’s fabrics comes to life
Johanna Gullichsen’s fabrics are integral to the interiors of the newly opened Hotel Filigrane in Paris. Designed by Studio Majorel Paris, the hotel’s aesthetic seamlessly blends bold graphics with delicate charm. Situated on Rue Vivienne in the 2nd arrondissement, it draws inspiration from the nearby Palais Brongniart (Bourse) and the Bibliothèque nationale de France, subtly referencing the treasures of these institutions—encrypted banknotes and literature.
“We used the rich aesthetic of the banknotes to create our own meticulous layering of graphic elements. This approach provided us with endless possibilities of combining lines, subtle motifs and moiré effects.” designer Anne Claire Majorel describes the process.
Each hotel room features a strong colour theme, creatively using Johanna Gullichsen’s patterns in headboards, upholstery, and cushions. The five main colours—blue, black and white, red, bistre, and green—create a unique atmosphere in every room.
“We needed to find a fabric with a bold geometrical aesthetic in various colours. Johanna Gullichsen’s Normandie fabrics perfectly answered our needs, with their beautiful patterns, subtle lines, and colours,” says Majorel. “Additionally, the fabric’s dual-sided design—light on one side and dark on the other— reminded us of a banknote printed on both sides. The fabrics were a good start for us to match our other textiles, tiles, and wall colours,”
Hotel Filigrane offers a refined retreat where guests are welcomed with exceptional comfort and style. From its intimate lobby to its serene spa and elegantly designed rooms, each space reflects Parisian charm, creating an atmosphere of relaxation and indulgence.
